Governor Jim Justice secured a commanding victory over former Commerce Secretary Woody Thrasher in the West Virginia Republican primary for governor. This victory is notable because it is the first time Justice had been on the ballot since switching his party allegiance to the GOP.
During the primary, FP1 ran a series of ads to bolster Justice’s conservative bona fides and strong record of accomplishments. Our message progression focused heavily on Justice’s endorsements from President Trump, the NRA and West Virginians for Life. We also ran a series of ads featuring West Virginians talking about Justice’s leadership on roads, opioids, jobs and increasing teacher pay.
To present Republican primary voters with a clear choice, we also ran three hard-hitting negatives that exposed Woody Thrasher as a dishonest businessman and a failure who was not fit to be governor.
“Jim Justice is a strong conservative and an effective governor,” said FP1 founding partner Terry Nelson. “FP1 is proud to be on his team, and we look forward to telling his leadership story of effectively managing the coronavirus outbreak, rebuilding West Virginia’s economy and representing the conservative values of West Virginians in the general election.”
“Governor Justice is a strong leader and a great conservative,” said FP1 partner Chris LaCivita. “The Republican Party is stronger because of his leadership. Our team at FP1 looks forward to the fall campaign and presenting a clear contrast with the governor’s liberal Democratic opponent.”
